Fig. 1. Two examples of time-domain reflectometry traces photographed from the cathode ray tube display of a Tektronix (Beaverton, OR) model 1502 cable tester. In (a) the photo is a double exposure, each exposure from a separate probe during a field infiltration experiment showing the wetting fronts of somewhat different shape in the two exposures. Note the manually drawn tangents, indicating the estimate of the time of the return reflection. In (b) the single trace shows how travel time indicator datum (3.76 cm), permittivity (10.264), and water content (0.1935) were all recorded directly on the top of photo.
