Cover: One of the largest documented tank leaks at the USDOE Hanford Site is from underground storage tank SX-108. The most difficult vadose zone locations to access are underneath the tanks. In 2000 a slant borehole was drilled and samples collected to investigate the nature and extent of vadose zone contamination. This issue's Special Section: Hanford Site features 14 articles that sample the extensive research and remediation at the site, including “Impact Assessment of Existing Vadose Zone Contamination at the Hanford Site SX Tank Farm,” p. 935-945, by Raziuddin Khaleel, Mark D. White, Martinus Oostrom, Marcus I. Wood, Frederick M. Mann, and John G. Kristofzski.
